Construction Update

September 29, 2008 construction officially began on our new church facility.  Big machinery rolled onto the property signalling the beginning of what will be both a challenging and truly exciting venture for our parish.  Brookstone Contractors is the firm contracted by the Archdiocese to build a new church facility that will take approximately one year to complete.  Dedication of the new church is planned for late fall of 2009.  The completion of the new church next year will also coincide with the 40th anniversary of Notre Dame as a parish community in Southwest Houston.

The initial phase of this project called for water lines and storm drains to be placed on opposite ends of our property.  Demolition of a CCE building was necessary to pave the way for a new drive that will establish new and permament traffic patterns for churchgoers.

The foundation was poured early on the morning of December 16.  Crews were busy laying the foundation for the new sanctuary that will be completed in the fall of 2009.

January, 2009
Steel and glu-lam began to arrive and assembled as the new year began.  Wet weather gave way to sunny skies as the month progressed and progress on the new structure began to take off.

January 18, 2009
Parishioners were invited to tour the site of the new church.  As part of the planned festivities that day, the area of the new sanctuary was marked off.  Our parishioners were then invited to sign their names to the slab in the area where the new altar would be placed.

February 2009

The new structure began to take shape as the ceiling and the glu-lam structure was placed.  A new 14' cross was delivered which was to be set atop of the new bell tower once it was constructed.

March 2009

Fair weather in March made it possible to begin the outer shell of the church.  The upper and lower roofs were put up as well as the framing for the new Mary window (far right picture) was erected.

April 2009

Removal of the Mary Window in the old church ended the month of March's activities.  The window was removed from its present place in the front of the old church and was taken to be re-furbished.  Later it is to be re-installed into its new location prominently in the front of the new structure.

Once the outside of the church was far enough along, the inside began its big transformation.

Brick and stone-work were begun on the exterior of the new church.  Sheet rock was being applied to the interior.

The north drive was poured mid-April which will allow access to the front of the new church as well as to buildings in the back of the property.

May 2009

Pews were removed from the old sanctuary to be re-furbished for installation in the chapel of the new church.  This part of the project allowed us to retain a part of the orginal furniture of the old church and bring it into the design of the new church.
